Internship

Past Projects

As an intern, you will have the opportunity to use your skillset to work with Pariveda and client/nonprofit organizations, demonstrating the benefits technology can bring to address business concerns. Below are some past projects Pariveda interns have worked on.

The Buffalo Bayou Guide is a cross-platform mobile application designed and built for the Buffalo Bayou Partnership (BBP) and for use in and around around Buffalo Bayou, Houston’s most significant natural resource.

The interns built the app using a cross-platform mobile development framework called Xamarin, which allows developers to create native Android and iPhone applications in C# against the .NET framework. The Buffalo Bayou Guide app leverages Google Maps Engine as the primary data store and uses the Google Maps JavaScript API to present the map interface to the end user.

The internship project team worked very closely with BBP to develop and design the product and the Buffalo Bayou Guide is currently free to download in both the Apple and Google Play app stores. Please click the links below to download the app for your device!

Habitat For Humanity Chicagoland - ReStore App.

Each Habitat for Humanity ReStore in the Chicagoland region is operated independently by its affiliate. Since each stores operations are independent, shoppers at multiple ReStores would have differing experiences from one store to the next. Chicagoland Habitat partnered with Pariveda to help devise a solution that could bring more uniformity to the ReStores and improve their customer’s experiences.Through the app, users have the ability to see store details, browse for items, request a pickup of a donation, and add a volunteer request to give their time at their local ReStore. Users can also subscribe to notifications for events, sales, new items, donation needs, and volunteer opportunities for different ReStores in their region.

The app will be available for download soon.

Center for Brain Health - Brain Game

The Center for BrainHealth is committed to enhancing, protecting and restoring brain health across the lifespan. We partnered with them in the Dallas office to create a mobile application that tests and measures your brain speed and focus ability. You can continue to play the game and get better to improve your scores. This will help the center gather data to use in more studies.

Houston BARC Foundation - Barcly App

BARC is the City of Houston’s Animal Shelter and Adoption Facility. BARC is required by law to accept every animal that comes through its doors regardless of breed, temperament, health conditions, and circumstance. The mission of the Houston BARC Foundation is to improve the quality of life for all animals in Houston, especially those at risk under the care of the City of Houston BARC municipal animal shelter.

We created BARCly , which is a mobile-first web application that provides users an interactive way to view and learn more about the currently available pets at BARC. Users are able to take a quiz that matches them to available pets, browse through their matched pets by swiping through cards, and search through all available pets.

BARCly also provides features that help streamline an adopter’s visit to the shelter, such as a detailed overview of each pet, an interactive adoption checklist, and the ability to save pets as favorites.

Shedd Aquarium - Conch Shell Game

The Shedd Aquarium is a landmark in the city of Chicago. Their mission is to promote the enjoyment, appreciation and conservation of aquatic life and environments The Chicago Finterns this past summer built an application that would increase awareness of research efforts for their Conch Shell program. It would engage the public through gamification. This application would allow visitors to race to select conch locations within the image, answer bonus questions about conch conservation, score points to get on the leaderboard and learn about the Conchservation Campaign.

It was built using these technologies

·   Grunt

·   AngularJS

·   Breeze

·   Microsoft .NET

Visit the Shedd Aquarium to play the interactive game and learn more about the Conch shell research.

Dallas Museum of Art - DMA App

The Dallas Museum of Art commissioned our Finterns to create an application that provides users with an enhanced visitor experience enabling them to easily browse and locate works of art in the DMA’s collection and current exhibitions, as well as explore programs happening at the DMA.

The application features an interactive map of the DMA, complete with points of interest and gallery previews. It also includes fun new ways to discover works of art, via self-guided tours compiled by DMA insiders or the “shake to explore” feature which displays a random DMA highlight on demand. The app was built using Swift, the newest programming language for iOS development, together with several products from the Amazon Web Services cloud computing platform to integrate smoothly with the existing technologies that currently serve the Museum’s website DMA.org.

Cristo Rey Jesuit- Transportation Application

Cristo Rey Jesuit College Preparatory belongs to the national Cristo Rey Network of schools. The Network is comprised of 32 high schools that provide a quality, Catholic, college preparatory education to 10,000 urban young people who live in communities with limited educational options. All students at Cristo Rey Network schools participate in a work-study program in which they finance the majority of the cost of their education, gain real world job experience, grow in self-confidence, and realize the relevance of their education

Pariveda used its 11 week internship project to help the school grow its transportation processes; on and off boarding students, and using technology to make sure no student is left behind.

The APP pulls student data from salesforce so once routes are established, the driver has an established route and list of students are uploaded for that day. Drivers scan the students’ badges as they enter and exit buses and the app. messages A CWSP coordinator if a student is late, or not present.

Recipe for Success - VegOut App

Recipe for Success is a non-profit dedicated to combatting childhood obesity by changing the way children understand, appreciate and eat their food through hands on learning in schools.

Our Finterns assisted in their efforts by creating a mobile application for their VegOut challenge that happens each March. The application allows for the participant to track the veggies they are eating, interact with their friends and earn badges throughout the challenge.

The VegOut app was built using these technologies

·   Ionic Framework (built on HTML5, AngularJS and Cordova)

·   Wordpress

·   WP-JSON web services and OAuth 1.0 authentication

Klyde Warren Park

The core operational team at Klyde Warren Park wanted to provide a mobile application that would highlight the free programming and events available at the park in a way that was intuitive to park patrons while simultaneously increasing participation in these events. In addition, other important priorities included an interactive map to allow visitors to locate particular points of interest as well as revenue-generating features such as acceptance of donations through the app and the promotion of food/beverage providers.

The Fintern team was able to deliver on all of these requests and more by leveraging Xamarin to build a cross-platform mobile application supporting both Android and iOS platforms as well as an AWS-based cloud backend solution which utilized features such as RDS for relational data storage, EC2 compute resources, and SNS push notification services. The application also features a number of integration points with third party services such as Facebook Single-Sign On (SSO), Google Maps, and Stripe payment processing.

The City of Cedar Hill - Mobile Trail Map App

The Trails of Cedar Hill is a mobile app that showcases the extensive parks, trails, and features that highlight the City’s goal of being known as “the city within a park.”  Additionally, trails and points of interest within the Cedar Ridge Preserve and Dogwood Canyon Audubon Center are also included within the app.  Once the State of Texas approves their data for use within the app, the trails and points of interest for the Cedar Hill State Park will also be showcased.

Although the interns had not used C# or Xamarin before, they quickly came up to speed and were able to over deliver to our client by achieving our stretch features (social and camera integration). When the interns presented the app to the Cedar Hill City Council, the Director of Parks and Recreation (our sponsor) told the Council that the “team was great to work with and exceeded all of her expectations.  I will remember this project and Pariveda for the rest of my life.”

The internship project team worked very closely with Cedar Hill to develop and design the product and the Trails of Cedar Hill is currently free to download in both the Apple and Google Play app stores. Please click the links below to download the app for your device!
