Oral Genome is an oral wellness innovation startup offering an in-home early detection saliva test kit to identify potential health issues before they start.
Nearly 3.5 billion people worldwide suffer from oral diseases which is largely preventable with early detection and treatment. Meanwhile, 56 million Americans live in dentist shortage areas where remote monitoring is critical for better access to dental care. These challenges inspired Oral Genome’s founder to develop a saliva diagnostic testing kit that can be administered either by a clinician or just as easily by the patient themself, paired with computer vision to enable results on their oral health in real-time along with recommendations for condition management and prevention.
The organization has grown into a fleet with 13 vans servicing over 7,000 meals a day and is looking towards further expanding to serve 27,000 meals per day by 2031.
The Challenge
Bringing innovative healthcare vision to life.
Oral Genome needed a technology partner to help bring its vision to life with a digital solution that will process saliva test results via computer vision and machine learning and deliver a personalized wellness report in a user-friendly way.
They partnered with Pariveda to define the product experience and develop an MVP mobile app to conduct a clinical pilot to demonstrate a modern, performant, and easy-to-use testing experience.
The Result
How Pariveda helped envision and build a modern experience:
- Partnered with the founder to envision and design the end-to-end consumer experience using wireframes, user flows, and high-fidelity clickable prototypes to fully showcase the solution.
- Translated the designs into a fully functional (iOS & Android) mobile app developed from scratch to easily administer the test, take a photo, analyze test results via proprietary algorithm, and generate a personalized oral wellness report for risk factors from cavities, gun disease to bad breath, all within minutes.
- The app also allows the user to create profiles for different members of their household to easily administer multiple tests under one account.
- Engineered a scalable solution in AWS to set a foundation to build upon as the consumer base grows over time to enable data analytics & computer vision, keeping future requirements & enhancements in mind.
The Impact
Our client will be positioned to conduct a pilot with a live mobile app to demonstrate the efficacy of their early detection saliva test kit to provide preventative and accessible oral care, further building confidence with their investment partners
This innovative product and solution will help prevent oral health issues before they start and increase access to care to those who need it most.
In partnership with Pariveda, Oral Genome has moved closer to reaching its mission to expand access to care and increase oral health literacy and self-efficacy for all.
