The next leap forward in sustainability
Globalization and manufacturing practices since World War II have led to a significant gap between resource-rich nations and others. However, different nations’ garbage is actually a redistribution of those resources. The next step in sustainability is to reclaim the resources contained within the garbage and provide feedstock back into the manufacturing process, which could bring more resiliency and independence to supply chains and improve standards of living.
Effective recycling or reuse programs that “harvest” the resources from garbage are necessary for this to occur, but innovations in technology’s capability to execute the reclamation of resources from landfills need to occur first.
