Mutual Interviewing: How to Make Your Next Job Interview a Two-Way Conversation

[wpbread]
The interview process can be nerve-wracking for both candidates and hiring managers. But what if there was a way to make it more collaborative and less stressful? Enter mutual interviewing.

AT A GLANCE

  • Mutual interviewing is an approach to job interviews where both the interviewer and candidate ask questions to ensure that the interview is a two-way conversation
  • To make the most of mutual interviewing, it’s important to come prepared with thoughtful questions that reflect your priorities and values as a candidate

An interview process should go both ways. While we strive to learn about you, we hope you learn about Pariveda. Making a career move is a big step, and we want you to have all the information you need to make an informed decision. One way to gather that information is through mutual interviewing – when both the interviewer and the candidate ask questions.

Asking questions throughout your interview

At Pariveda, we value candidates who are curious and proactive in seeking information. Come prepared with questions about the role, the company, the day-to-day work environment, your future team leader, and any other aspects that are important to you. Taking notes during the interview and asking questions that may arise organically shows your genuine interest in learning more about us and the opportunity.

Our interviews are designed to be a two-way conversation. While we will ask you questions, we encourage you to ask questions throughout the interview. This shows that you are engaged and interested in understanding more about us. If you are not comfortable asking questions throughout the interview, you can plan to ask them in the last few minutes or request an additional conversation for further discussion. We appreciate your curiosity and active participation in the process.

You may also have important questions that you want to ask multiple interviewers. Feel free to ask the same questions to different people throughout the interview process. And look for consistencies in the overall response while still acknowledging that individual responses may vary slightly. We value your thoroughness and attention to detail.

Questions to ask during an interview to understand the role

When preparing for your interview, develop a list of questions for your interviewer. Consider what is most important to you and plan to ask questions that will help you understand if the role will meet your expectations. For example, if professional development is high on your list of characteristics for your next role, craft a question in that area.

Professional Development

What professional development and learning opportunities will be available to me?

Career Advancement

What is the promotion path for this role? How are promotions determined?

Team Dynamics

What is your favorite part of working on this team? What could improve?

Company Culture

How has the company changed since you joined? What is your favorite thing about working here?

Variation of Work

What does a typical day or week look like for this role?

Company Values

What’s a company value that you see played out on a regular basis?

The questions you ask help us understand what is important to you and help you determine if Pariveda is the right place for you. Be sure to reflect on the answers you receive and use them in your decision-making process!
